070707 - B-post repair

bpostrepair.jpg

The left sill had been replaced before, and really lousy work had been done. This part of the B-post had to be rebuilt to recreate the indent between it and the sill. It took some effort to get right, with the help of a lot of paper patterns taken from the other side. The dog leg on this side had been replaced to the full extent of the repair panel, which means I have to make up a strip between the new one and the rest of the wing. I try to avoid welds to large flat metal areas, I am to inpatient to be good at avoiding distortion. I'd rather replace the front part of the wing up to the brightwork, but that means buying a complete wing and cut it down. Expensive. :(
