The rear panel and its mounting flanges are being prepared for welding. This is a part which will take some time aligning with the surrounding bodywork to get the gap around the boot lid looking good. The old one had been seriously banged up some time in the past and had been crudely covered in filler. At the bottom edge it was more than 1 cm thick, only beaten by the amount put into the dents in the boot lid itself. I'm glad I won't be spending time trying to get the old panels straight, it would never have been satisfactory done.
