080804 - Rear panel

rearpanel.jpg

After finishing the last spot welds fixing the rear panel in place I lead-loaded the joints between it and the rear wings above the bumper. As these surfaces are near vertical this my second attempt at loading was a bit harder than the first one; the scuttle panel in front of the windscreen. The right one cuts the hole for the fuel filler tube in half and the edges of this had to be made up of solder. I think this one went ok, but I'm not entirely happy with the left one. A problem is that I have to weld a bit more just below these areas and the solder might run of. The reason I didn't do this before the loading is my lack of skills at welding upwards, I'm putting the finishing welding on hold until I can tilt the body. I'll have to control the heat build-up as much as possible and just hope it works. Or re-do the loading...
