I finally took the time to do some work on the engine. After thorough de-rusting of the head and the sides of the block by wire brush, cleaning took a lot more time than I had thought...but I finally got it clean enough to paint it with epoxy etch-primer. This stuff dries quickly, so I was able to bolt some stuff back on instead of leaving holes plugged with rags. Left to do is removing the front- and endplates to treat them, the sump, the timing chain cover and what's left on the block. I'll replace the chain and tensioner, but other than that and an examination of the oil pump, the mechanics will be left alone for now; it ran well and does not have too many kms in it since a factory rebuild. The rocker cover will be replaced by an alloy one I got for Christmas some years ago. It will look fantabulous when it's done!
